Best to use the Torch of Alna, http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=694. This is for the Fire pet. Just beat the mob down to about 5% health and click on the torch, Poof, pet gone. Let person finish killing mob. Rinse and repeat. Give the person your damage shield also.

Have a nuke ready to save the person you are PLing in case things go wrong.
