Default question about money in P99

Hey everybody. I just set up P99 but havent actually gotten into playing much yet. I've noticed from the threads on the EC Forum that it seems like a lot of items are bought and sold for a lot more pp than I remember people buying things for back when I used to play EQ Live. I was just wondering if the amount of cash that mobs drop has been altered, or if the good folks on P99 are just better at saving and making money. Just curious is all.. Thanks!

Welcome to a 10 year old game. The methods to make straight plat were figured out a while ago. The methods to farm items were figured out a while ago. The top tier items fetch a premium for being BiS, the rest are not as valuable and allow one to twink quite easily.

Classic, and now Kunark, have lasted longer than they did back in 1999 meaning people have had more time to build wealth. Also people know the plat farms much better and kept them perma-camped. You also aren't competing with 2000-3000 people playing at the same time, so the wealth has concentrated and camps have consolidated.

Also there were some duping exploits early on and some of that is still probably floating around.

It's an economy. It's all relevant to the market. Our market is saturated with platinum when people were farming sea fury cyclops's during time between Classic and Kunark.

Fortunately while high end items are out of a new players price range (which naturally they should be), mid level items are quite cheap or even given away sometimes.

Once you're high level it ends up not really mattering much. For the most part item prices on high end items seem reasonable to me and roughly reflect the effort to attain them. Once you get things of value to sell, you'll get more money for them too due to the "inflated" economy, letting you get in on it as well.

Long and short of it: If you put much effort into gearing yourself, you will certainly be at the least better geared at x level than people were in classic, especially sub 50.

On a top-heavy, saturated server, this is the end result. As long as you are not aiming for BiS, things tend to be pretty cheap.
