Monk is the best class to start off with no resources in my opinion. No need to buy spells, your fists are better weapons that everyone training weapon, already duel wielding, and your AC is naturally better without armor. It takes a bit more effort to save up to buy things however due to the weight limitation.

As far as your question about Iksar going into Qeynos, I have no idea. I know killing gnolls will raise several factions in Qeynos, but not sure if it raises the Monk faction there.

Maybe if groups are available. You won't be doing a whole lot of soloing 10+ without any gear.

So far I have Soloed to Level 28 and made it to level 20 without buying any gear, after that I was near EC and started purchasing gear. I don't remember exactly, but this is a close approximation of what money/gear I had at what level and what zone I got it in. I predict if a newbie monk followed this template that they would get similar results.

Level 1-5 - Newbie Ground (decaying skel) - 100pp + full set of cloth
Level 6 - Qeynos Aquaducts (frogloks/diseased rat) - 110pp + earrings
Level 7-15 - Qeynos Hills/Blackburrow (gnolls) - 300pp + spiked collar
Level 16-20 - Erud's Crossing (wisps) - 500pp
Level 21-25 - Nektulous Forest (guards/guardians) - 1000pp + Wu's, +55 hp rings, Baton of Faith, other assorted items, purchased from EC.
Level 26-28 - HighKeep (guards) and HighPass (gnolls) - 2000pp
