All right... here is my reluctant (reluctant, I say!) argument in favor of a military regime:
The means by which a dictator usually comes into power does create a trend for ruthless, single-minded leaders. However, this is an excellent thing for a society, I would argue. Ruthless leaders are far more likely to do what has to be done for the nation- whatever the initial, short-term repercussions may be. When the people are left to decide, each person simply advocates what would benefit him/her the most, which is almost NEVER what the nation needs. Quite often, they don't even know what they themselves need. Bitter arguing and power struggles follow as each person tries to raid the national treasury by voting. This, of course, is wildly inefficient. Having a single person dictate what is to be done benefits the whole nation by having
1) A leader who can see the whole picture controlling the nation, rather than individuals who can only guess at the real logistics at play
2) the entire nation's interests represented, not just the 51% that voting caters to.
All this is why dictatorships are completely justified, and you should all vote me next person to initiate a coup.

nice troll.
people govern themselves, no one person is fit to make decisions for all the different demographics that the USA is comprised of. This type of bullshit puts control of your life in the hands of old men in suits, rather than within your community, or yourself.
