(500+ in bazaar to sullon zeks 90) People actually gave a shit when they lost items so they kept track of their guilds and history. Red didn't just equal dead. No item loot = some shitty deathmatch server where you attack pretty much everyone on sight in an mmo with one of the LOWEST skillcaps ever.
But at that point, as other RZ people have mentioned, item loot had been effectively removed due to LDoN augs. And SZ was by far the lowest pop PvP server, VZ and TZ had much healthier populations.

Augs came in late enough that it didn't matter (Max level players were already in full nodrop for the most part). The server had an established political system before that thanks to there being a real death penalty for a long enough time. New players also didn't have to endure bullshit twinks taking no risk.

as hardcore as item loot is. I vote no to trying to bag my gear before the group ganking me kills me to steal my shit. Exp death is enough of a grief. Not trying to be a pussy but it was a mistake on live.. Why they got rid of it.

I grew up on VZ, and I consider that to be the greatest mmo experience anyone has ever had. We wear rose tinted glasses when looking into our EQ pasts imo.

Its true. Softcore. I believe any classic PVP experience was top of the line compared to other later pvp experiences.

I think that the rallos ruleset offers the most benefits, even with limited item loot. All of those servers were great though

8 lvls ffa = bad. Further, no item loot = boring. It's what really made EQ different from WoW/DAoC etc and why I keep hoping to come back to something like it to this day.

I was an elf purist on VZ, and I think that's what made my experience so unique and awesome.
