So a friend and I started playing this over the weekend. Neither of us had previously played, and it was certainly a lot of fun. What's the strategy in creating your deck though? He was playing black/white while I was playing red, which seemed alright. We both pretty much had no idea what we were doing, but we were learning as the games went on. Our matches were definitely close (although he proceeded to win every single match except one), which makes me think his deck was just better..?
I D K, give me some nerdy tips on how you assemble your decks / play your cards. Is one color set obviously better than the other..? I bought a couple of packs of cards this weekend, going to try to put together an ub3r l33t deck this week. I need to be prepared for Thursdays games, giev tips ~ ~

Oooo, there's a ps3 version? That'd probably be good practice. Will look into ~
Red seemed pretty good, from what I saw. His white/black deck seemed almost OP to me. I played my first match with a green/blue deck and it was god-fucking-awful.

obviously its a game that can easily be based off who has better cards. So like the way diablo 3 is going to be you can pay to have better stuff. I haven't played this game since like 7-8th grade but one thing we used to do to even the playing field is to both play with just a starter deck. This will make sure both people have a similar in strength but slightly different in strategy and play style. I would suggest that if your just trying to play for fun and not trying to play in like tournaments and such. Theres no clear color advantage its all based on the cards you have. You cant send a 14/14 card into play that requires 3 islands and 2 plains cards to tap if you have all swamp mana cards. Its an interesting game with a big learning curve, i've also noticed different people have slightly different rules when they play. its kinda like "house rules" in monopoly. My grandma bought be an original 1993 edition 1 set back when it first came out, never opened it, sold it a few years later for Alot more then she bought it for im sure. have fun playing! i'd like to start playing chess again myself.

Magic the gathering is a old but fun game. Deck creation varies from person to person and by how many different types of card u have. People with few cards tend to make mulit color decks for the sake of haveing more spells/creatures at their disposal. MTG has had an old rule about deck alliences. on the back of each card u will see the 5 colors in a pentagon shape. Neighboring colors in the shape have a better synergy while colors across from each other tend to be enemy's. not say u cant make a black/white deck or a red/blue deck it just they become a little trickier because they have counters vs each other. When it comes down to deck creation single color decks work the best. You don't have to worry about getting a specific type of mana for a certain creature color. but multi colored decks give you more verity in creatures and spells. Note each color has different advantages and disadvanages.
Long time magic player if u have more questions just ask. Have fun!

Hum, mtg. I used to do type2 tourneys with my brothers back in the 90s.
First decide what you want your deck to do. A clear focus is key. As red you have lots of targeted destruct cards, spell dmg, and cheap creatures. For a new deck I start with 1/3 of the deck as land cards, then tune it by playtesting. the fine details are more than can be explained here, you should hit some m:tg forums for their newbie pages. A firm grasp of the rules and game mechanics will help with deck creation so that youll better understand your decks strengths and weaknesses.

yo feach, if you used to play red t2 in the 90s, you would probably cry if you saw some of the overpowered stuff they added a couple sets back
like a 2/2 HASTE (uneffected by summoning sickness) goblin for just a single red mana?! wtf~!!!! sure, its got a minor drawback, but who cares when you're rollin over people's faces in the first 4 turns of the game but that just cycled out i believe
