I miss the 2010s, "wipe it clean 2026" doesn't have the same rhyming magic as the teens

There was an Image/Devnoob server that was similar to this. It was like a ladder season in Diablo where you would get faster exp etc to compensate for the shorter server duration. There would be leaderboards for kills, the most deaths etc. Was pretty fun. Problem is it got kinda stale towards the end and people would stop playing. So it was only like 1-2 guilds poopsocking.

I actually think it could be a good idea to merge Blue and Green into a Veteran Server and then open a new Green server.
However, this model would actually not be all that different from a seasonal server – with the difference that after a wipe, all characters could be transferred to the Veteran Server and remain there permanently. Why not? There is, however, a perfectly legitimate objection to this approach: Who is going to start a new character on the old Green server if they know that it will soon be merged into the Veteran Server, while the actual “fresh start experience” will then take place on the new Green server? Of course, the P99 team could keep such a move secret for as long as possible and then suddenly announce a new server. But honestly: How would a new player feel if they started on the old Green, invested dozens or even hundreds of hours there, and then suddenly found out that a new server was being opened? In my opinion, this is exactly the problem that a fixed one-year cycle with two seasonal servers rotating every six months solves quite elegantly. There would always be a relatively young server available – and for new characters, that server would never be more than six months old. Players would therefore always have a young server they could join, without the developers having to keep creating an ever-growing number of permanent servers. A character's lifespan of one year would be long enough to experience a real journey and build a meaningful character, while still being limited enough to prevent Norrath from simply growing older for decades while wealth, characters and established economies continue to accumulate. The two seasonal servers would offer a different kind of gameplay experience for players who enjoy a fresh economy, starting from scratch, and a world where not everything has already been claimed, distributed and established. And of course, there could still be a Blue Veteran Server alongside them, where characters and their entire history would be preserved permanently. That way, you would actually have both: A permanent home for the past and two worlds for the present. Rust has shown that wipes do not necessarily destroy player motivation. For many players, starting over is actually part of the game. A wipe is not necessarily something players fear – it can even be something they look forward to. I therefore believe that there are also EverQuest players who would deliberately choose such a system. Because not everything has to last forever to be valuable. Quite the opposite: something can become precious precisely because it is limited. A good meal does not become worthless because it is eventually eaten. A vacation does not become meaningless because you eventually have to go home. A great evening does not become meaningless because it eventually comes to an end. And even on the Blue “forever server”, nothing is truly eternal. Eventually, our own game in real life will come to an end as well. What remains may be our stories, our memories, and the people we shared them with. The real value was never that everything would remain forever. The value was that we experienced it. Here is my basic concept in simple terms: Green Server A: January 1 – December 30 → reset and new cycle Green Server B: June 1 – May 30 → reset and new cycle Blue Server: Permanent server containing all playable veterans from previous Green cycles If someone would rather attach themselves to high-level players (Noob Druid) than actually build their own progression alongside other new players, they can simply do that on the Blue server. In principle, you could then create a new character on a fresh server every six months. No character is ever truly lost, and there would still only be three P99 servers in total if Red were eventually turned into Green B. | ||
