you stand there until its snared. then joust. joust implies you move away as little as possible to get a bow shot off and reset your swing timer on slow.

Warrior: Start the fight with a snare weapon and wait for it to proc. From there you swap to trunch and arrows. Run in, turn on attack, get a slow proc, run away, fire arrows, repeat until slowed. Once the mob is slowed equip the blood points and finish it off.
Having snare is super handy cos it can give you the time to run away, putting distance between the mob and you, easily creating a few seconds of space between the mob and you. This space allows you the time to pop a bp heal / bandage - sometimes a couple hundred hp can be the difference in a fight when fighting mobs which don't summon - particularly 57-59 when bandaging gets much stronger.

I think this is obviously a little too extreme. For example, if you are a warrior using a truncheon and have some NTOV two hander for dps, if the mob is at 10% health it is clearly better to swap to the dps weapon to finish the mob off more quickly.

On the other extreme end, for your first swing of the fight, it is clearly worth it to use a weapon with a slow proc. The question I find interesting is where the tipping point is, and if anyone had mathed it out. Or if people go by feel, what % do they switch at?

Bcbrown has some cool math going, that is above my head, so it'll be interesting to see what that shows.
I engaged the mob with the intent to slow it. Its going to get slowed.

Interesting, I never considered using this strategy indoors in close quarters, mind sharing some of the tougher mobs you've been able to take down? I'm always curious about pushing the limits of what a warrior can solo.

Idk if that's the best strategy, but I admire your ability to follow through with an engagement plan!

I used to wait until 50% or so then switch to DPS weps if slow hadn't already landed. Each mob is different though: I was soloing the Castle Entrance in the Hole and i'd get frisky sometimes and pull the pathing Rock Golem ----- that one I'd keep the Truncheon equipped basically until it was fleeing.

There is no one size fits all answer to this question, or EQ in general. It depends what you are fighting and how reliant you are on a slow proc. Even on a raid level…with enough healers in the chain you can kill anything. Most stuff that can be slowed though, is, because why gamble when people literally show up on the slow classes?

That said, I did a bit of parsing on my 60 ranger killing Geos here. The EC/Silver Whip to start averaged the least amount of HP lost. It was a short test sample but I feel would hold up decent. With a moderate amount of dex you are 1ppm and maxed 2ppm (approximately). On a blue con that means roughly one slow proc a minute or every 30 seconds where most those fights took about 70 to 120 seconds. I remember once where a proc landed at around 15% but it was not the typical.

I also leveled up a warrior to 60. From 45-60 I used a Twisted Steel Bastard Sword and part of that journey would start with a Truncheon or Doom. With Evasive rolling your proc rate doesn’t change which lets you run the clock out comfortably. The last couple levels I would always wait for a proc, then switch. I found I could more easily keep two spawns down since on average it took less healing to get back up to a comfortable level for the next one. I didn’t parse dps since the targets run at low health so I didn’t feel the data would be as useful.

You can switch to the dps at low health. There might be a case of not trying to slow at all (if the healer is mana neutral let the damage shields roll). I guess it depends if you technically can kill it without or a slow or not. Is it a one-off target you can reset with a zone line? If on a ranger can you just root/snare and whittle it down with a bow? Can you root joust for a proc (either class can click a crystalline net on rootable mobs).

How much downtime vs mana vs risk is there? That will dictate your answer. I will say with 100% honesty that if your class can slow with a droppable weapon, you should always have that weapon. Multiple people with tash sticks/orbs and slow proc weapons can work around some tough stuff. We did juggs for hours once without a real slower and without these weapons the downtime would have rough for the cleric.

Sorry for being light on context and heavy on the word count.

Specifically for stunt kills with a ranger the only time I think it makes sense not to slow is if trueshot disc’ing with a BFG. Even then a lucky slow proc could make all the difference before you disc. Or…I would try to land a snare and move it closer to the zone so you can reset it until you can land a slow.

I’d agree with bcbrown. The dps loss using an earthcaller isn’t ideal but the possible gains are huge.
