It’s power fantasy EQ, I think that has always been the most apt description

Really no different than me loading up Skyrim or Oblivion with 50 different mods that let me be a werewolf/daedra/lich. It’s still Skyrim or Oblivion, but it’s a modded power fantasy version

But to me it seems that EQL would keep my attention longer than using console commands or mods to trivialize everything on those other games. Because usually once I go heavy on the cheats, I stop playing after about a week

I never dipped into pokemon Gen2 but I recently got a copy of gold for my Birthday. It’s hard to fight the temptation of sending some mons back to my gen1 cart, load them up with special moves and level ups before sending them back to the ‘new’ game, but I don’t cos I know that would kill the playthrough for me.

The thing to remember is that not only are you multiclass, but the mobs are multiclass too. And there is a higher percentage of multiclassed mobs at higher difficulties.

Getting smoked by a WAR/MNK decaying skeleton in the EFP Noob yard made it feel like real EQ.

Getting chain mezzed by the level 8 PAL/ENC gnoll in blackburrow made it feel like real EQ.

Lots of examples of this happening. It's still a power fantasy, but you can choose to tip the scales back in the NPCs favor by increasing the difficulty.

If I were to play, this is the kind of info I would want. Items that are overturned for when you get them, especially if upgrading them continues to keep that disproportion. Like the blacked alloy bastard sword in this list

I played the beta a bit and, unfortunately, it's pretty obvious that EQ Legends is less trying to be a new version of EQ but rather trying to make a modern MMO Lite game using EQ assets to save money. It doesn't resemble Everquest - either classic OR modern - in any way outside of familiar areas and races. Everything is made to be a single player game where you can do everything yourself and nothing is social.

I don't really know who this game is for. Everquest fans who are now tired of the game and want to play a more modern online game but with a nostalgic look? I'll pass.

I pretty much am done with the beta, I had a lot of fun, and will enjoy the live version.

But.. there is a lot I don't like about how it's basically a get to 50 and never explore the old zones, skip to the target, skip to the boss feel.

Like, I really enjoy gearing level 10-20 characters with obscure fun gear, but even I plan to just get to 50 first and worry about gear then, wearing trash and not even taking a moment to enjoy the mid 30s or 20s or whatever.

Idk how to fix it, I think I would have prefered if they tried to make the tri class their own thing based off Quarm & P99 - rather than trying to capture that THJ feel.

Right now you're just so powerful at level 1 you summon a mage pet and burn to 10, then just group and burn mobs down to 50.

Then respec to the weird class combo you want to try, burn to 50 in BIS raid gear you got with your last combo.

It's just kind of like, idk... there is no reason to ever set foot in the karanas.

And if you do: die - and get warped to the safe spot right next to the qeynos zone line..

Idk.. I would have preferred if it was slower, like you had to play project 1999 - and at level 50 got to add a level 1 new class to your build - grind it up to 50... then get to add a 3rd and grind it up from 1 to 50.

Like if it took 3-6 months for even an EQ gooner to max level would be a lot more fun I think than just logging in, and burning up to 50 in a few days and then onlyl being interested in raid loot because literally why would you care about mid level loot?

I got an FBSS and i started farming it at 20 and got it 39 - then went directly to naggy and replaced it with a cof before I logged off that night.

You just skip ALL the content to get to 50, or you larp that you want to collect lower level gear, but in the process of collecting it: whops you got to 50!
