Yes you're going to get hit but I'd rather take a round than wait 48 seconds but that's just me. It is the part of reverse charming I don't like.

Usually I find that I can sit far enough away that I can charm a snared mob without having to root them first, especially once you have Call of Karana. I mostly use the root override trick in Kedge Keep where you pretty much have to do it that way.
