A spectrum of disruptive behavior rather than a serious taxonomy:

Goblins / gremlins – petty saboteurs. Small, constant interference: nitpicks, bad-faith tweaks, “just asking questions” that go nowhere.
Raccoons – opportunistic scavengers. They don’t care about truth, just grabbing whatever angle or reaction they can use.
Trolls – deliberate provocation. The goal isn’t to argue, it’s to get a rise and derail the thread.
Ogres – blunt force. Loud, aggressive takes that try to bulldoze nuance rather than engage it.
Pigeons – the old chess analogy: knock pieces over, make a mess, and act like they won. No interest in rules or outcomes beyond posturing.

None of these modes produce useful discussion. The common thread is avoidance of substance—no evidence, no accountability, no engagement with the actual claim. Treat them accordingly: don’t reward the behavior, keep responses anchored to verifiable points, and disengage when it’s clear the goal isn’t a real conversation.
