Not having ever played THJ, I didn't realize how many people wanted an EQ experience where you never have to interact with other players outside of maybe discord chat. Like, I get the appeal of being able to play at your own place, and do content you'd never otherwise be able to do, but I was surprised at how many people in the EQL discord genuinely don't want to ever interact with another player.

What's even the point of EQ without any player interaction? It's not exactly like the gameplay loops are the most stimulating single-player experience out there.

it's just what the modern adhd gamer craves, some single player Diablo-like

i'm surprised they even made this when the broader game industry mostly consists of "how do we turn this into an extraction shooter / Fortnite clone"

you didnt know that soloing, or solo self found was a popular way to play this game?

To my mind, these are different than "I genuinely do not want to interact with or see another player."

I solo a lot due to time constraints. In theory I'm the target audience for the server. I don't want to play a version of EQ where every single zone is instanced and I never see or interact with another player character though. Even if I'm able to solo all the quest/dungeon content, I still want to interact with other players, get a port, throw out a buff or two, twink a newbie, contract a tradeskiller, etc.

But from what I'm seeing in the discord, there's a good number of people who don't want anything to do with other players. It just seems odd to me when there's so many great single player games. I feel like I'd just get bored.

Its more like World of Warcraft, where you grab a friend for a daily kill that you can't take down on your own but want to.

But the majority of time are focusing on checking off the boxes that you want without requiring asking for help.

As far as the why would you want to play it?

It was a really fun game to experement and play with.

Like, you would be like, "Wow this build is STRONG! I wish I had more DPS, what if I swapped this class for that class... I oh wow I'd get a magic boost... what if I combo that with the proc, oh and I did a wizard, I could add more damage with spell damage bonuses! This sounds fun!

And you play the game and experement, and then think, man i wish I was a rogue but i had duel wield flaming swords.. and cast necromancer spells... and you do that etc.

It was just fun as fuck lol

The grinding and EXP was tuned so well, like it was difficult and required EQ like thinking. But it was easy, and fun to crush through like it was world of warcraft.

If you liked the "feel" of eq... but you also enjoy other games, it just really, really hit the spot.

If you're all playing the same game even solo you can still brag about Item X and then "sorry you didn't get..."
