Angry Why do people mouse-click in 2026?

To be fair I wasn't even mouse clicking in 1999. I remember setting up WASD really fast too because I had already used that in Tribes. Trying to turn auto attack off and hit pick pocket and hide really fast, before turning auto attack on and mashing backstab.... mouse-clicking was pretty non-viable from the start.

Sorry for the random rant, but I was just watching this youtube video of someone on P99 causing a wipe... because they accidentally clicked the wrong mouse button and unmemorized their heal [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] and my head nearly exploded.

Is P99 truly a bunch of 60+ year old boomers or something? Like it's so hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that there are people mouse clicking and keyboard turning in any game in 2026.

I try to remove the persons name because I don't really want to flame them as an individual, but mouse-clickers in general. I want them to feel shame and embarrassment because maybe it will help them embrace normal gaming habits that anyone under the age of 50 should probably have.

It's ok to play games without optimizing all the time. That's actually the optimal way to play.

I remember back in the early days it was common to bind stuff to numkeys and move with the arrow keys. If I recall, WASD didn't become really widespread until Counter-Strike became a game that every gamer on the planet played.

Keybinds follow across characters IIRC and that's fucking annoying.

Like if you bind sense heading to W then that hotbutton gets triggered across all toons. I set up the stuff I use extensively but I'm not trying to master play speed or whatever.

Probably doesn't help that I main a chanter and there's

SO

MUCH

SWAPPING

that nothing is at the same spot depending on what you're fighting.

So I basically have GCD, invis item, AE stun, AE mez and charm bound and that's about it.

I'm pretty sure this person was high AF.. which is understandable.

WASD is an inferior key set up than ESDF. With ESDF you have another column of keys you can use for binding. The F key has the detent so you know you're on the right keys. E is closer to the middle than the W key is in that combo.
I started using this back in my FPS days and would use the extra key binds for weapon swaps and taunting macros.
