The holy Quadrumvarite (Monk, Enc, Nec, Shm) is hard to beat, because I believe them all to be objectively leagues above every other class for group / exp / small op dungeon crawls.
I don't think Warriors are S tier, but they are actually surprisingly good.

Discs + high HP/AC make them great for easy raid/epic targets, e.g. I used to farm Demon Fangs with Liia by simply fighting Xenevorash straight up WAR/CLR using damage shield potions and well timed complete heals, and there was definitely quite a bit of excitement watching the HP bar go up and down.

For the same reason, you can just ignore slow, even in fairly high-level areas, which really helps avoid warrior threat problems. Even Sakuragi could handle the myconid shroom camp with a single cleric without slow; if I had 255 STA and a dain hammer and more hp rather than AC gear (which doesn't really help versus XP mobs) it would have been significantly better.

Warriors with a Palladius/Gaudralek/Rocksmasher weapon should be only a little behind Monks for damage. Of course they don't get FD, which removes all of the artistry, but there is a surprising amount of moving around, taunting, positioning, and weapon swapping to do. Plus, warrior pulling is just more fun for the group than hanging around waiting while the monk tries to get singles.

Necromancer is the only class worth playing if apathetic about all except fast advancement towards peak efficiency.

Every class has it's points, whether someone finds fun or not is based on their opinions only. Just because someone else isn't having "fun" playing that class, or can't play that class well, isn't a criteria as to whether that class can be considered fun to play. I played a Ranger in OG EverQuest, I would group up regularly with any other class and could make a go of it. I was in many end game raids, and contributed to the success of those raids.
If you can't find a class fun, it's an indictment of your expectations and playstyle, not the class.
