The ice burrower log he specifically states no Archery AAs were obtained. Hopefully in absence of evidence can be used as a rough baseline. I tried a lot of search criteria for early logs, came up fairly dry

Bradmeister Aug 6, 2001, 10:30:32 PM to >>Wouldn't it be nice if bows or arrows could do some real damage? << >>>SNIP<<< My friend is a lvl 54 Ranger. Archery skill 215. Master Fletcher. He often does crits with his bow. I saw him do a 294 crit bow shot. (non trueshot discipline, whatever that means) Sounds like real damage to me. Jam Aug 7, 2001, 12:35:03 AM to I like the damage on the bows. My level 23 troll warrior with a Darkwood Bow (cannot remember the name, its the most damaging one), and homemade arrows (hooked point, bone shaft, Parabolic fletch, small neck), can damage for 28 points, and crit at 56 points. I personally think a 56 dmg to the mob before it even reach you is a ok damage, and the arrows i use are not even the most damaging ones, its just the least expensive that have 150 range and some descent dmg. -- Hesten Gnyffa Level 34 druid Officer of Da Troll Patrol Veeshan server Tim Fitzmaurice Aug 7, 2001, 2:48:00 AM to On Mon, 6 Aug 2001, Nos...@killspam.com wrote: > After playing with a bow for pulling (from advice from this group, thanks > guys!) I have one comment. Wouldn't it be nice if bows or arrows could do > some real damage? Wouldn't it be nice if in EQ, bows could REALLY dole out Yes, it would be delightful says I speaking as a ranger. t one thing that slightly iritates me that a ranger whose very symbol is a bow is you're not really that much better than other classes until very high level. I guess that's hybridland though.... However I'm using a very basic ashwood bow, and damage 1 arrows and I am hitting for typically 15-17 points of damage with a delay somewhere round about 42-45 IIRC....which isnt too shabby when you root and let rip. PLus you can run backwards shooting, change direction and auto realign to shoot. Now I fletch my arrows myself and range 150 dam 1 arrows cost me a coupla gold a stack, and I can if I want use smithing to limit the cost even further.....spare metal bits, 20 arrowheads thank you. Oh and with a stength od 100 and dex of about 85 I critical for 37 points at the moment....it'll go up with better bows. Dave Cheeseman Aug 7, 2001, 5:51:05 AM to I have a Trueshot Bow and use 2/150 arrows which are nice and cheap, from a Fleeting Quiver which reduces attack delay on archery. I am hunting Crazed Ghouls in Butcherblock which are blue to me at 35. I pull one clear of the spawn points and root, then shoot it until root breaks, then re-root. I throw in the occasional Stinging Swarm which is good for my Conjuration. It takes me about 40 arrows to get it to 20% health, and I get on average 1-2 skill increases in archery. Then I finish it off with dual-wielded piercing weaps which also gets my piercing up. They hit quite hard so I often lose 20% health at this stage. Most times I do 12-22 damage with arrows, occasionally criticals 45-51, and occasionally less than 12 damage or missing altogether. My Archery is now 165, out of a max for my level of 180. My downtime is just medding to get back the mana for rooting & DD, plus healing the lost health from the final Melee. I can just keep up with the spawn rate with this tactic, so it is quite efficient. Although this post is out of Era, it is still indicative of bows having their own bonus, as well as Ranger Stationary and Trueshot AFFECTING that bonus.
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...06701602090288 "Number 3: The trueshot discapline grants higher crits for bows with higher delays. To test the truth of this, get 2 bows with the same damage and different delays. Trueshot with both of them enough and you will come to see that the one with the higher delay crits harder, despite having equal damage. Therefore, a stonewood, for instance, probably out performes a featherwood during trueshot." I still maintain, and will continue to maintain, the P99 mainhand bonus applying to archery is a gross error in the combat mechanics of the server. It is an artificial nerf to rangers as well as simultaneous buff to large races, namely large race warriors. Its a broken mechanic that needs fixed. I posted this is the PVP bugs thread about archery bonus as well as the issue applies there and here. Also its a good time to bump this thread to ensure it gets seen and addressed. Bows had their own damage bonus, similar to 2 handers, it was based on the delay of the bow and the Ranger bonuses of stationary target and trueshot affected said bonuses.

Per patch notes dating January 17, 2001:
- The ranger's "Trueshot" discipline has had its damage increased after analyzing data from its fix last week. Prior to the last patch, all bows, while under the discipline, were hitting as if they were 45dmg bows regardless of the delay. Last week's patch fixed it so that damage was based on the damage of the bow. This weeks patch increases damage bonuses in relation to delay (longer delays yield better damage bonuses).

Research done Kuwen. It drops off a lvl58 ranger named Aaramis Silverblade. Undercon. Is known to hit for 300+ crits with it (307, 317s were 2 hits) without raid buffs (had VoG, that was it...no focus, avatar, etc, etc....so just base dex + VoG). /huggles his new bow. Can't wait to test this bad boy on Yelinak.

What can I say...I love my bow now. Post50 double damage hits were great....and now Trueshot is even better (disgusting damage? yes, I think so :P). So here's my biggest hits so far....just wondering how I stack up to the rest of you, since my archery was almost unused until almost lvl50. (it's still under 200, but i've almost broken the marker now). *dex varies on these...some were using base dex (around120), others were max dex (255) on raids... also using Bow of the Underfoot (33/60 bow)* without Trueshot disc - highest non-crit : 163, highest crit : 280 with disc - highest non-crit : 340, crit : 498 *edit* got the 498 crit last night on a seb golem that dared charge us after we downed Trak. had a 368 crit just before the 498 on him too, so with disc still going I probably did 3k dmg to that poor golem. Hopefully Verant will do something with fletching like they did with tailoring, maybe allow fletchers to create some nice bows with some droppable/questable items (Hmm a bit off topic there but oh well) Sindaien 53 Pathfinder of Vita Infinita

Any sleuthers out there that can offer advice on search criteria? I found those other logs with some basics like:
"Points of damage" "ranger" "bow" I tried adding in other things such as "non-melee" or specific bow names in era such as "recurve", "ashwood", "runed oak" and even "trueshot" with limited success. I thought for sure there would be older logs of people playing with ranger specific bows such as "raincaller' or "rain caller" but again met with limited success.

Of course not sure if there were any general melee patches to increase damage, but can be easily checked. I'll see about taking a peek for six months into 2002
