Magicians were in a peculiar spot when "Green" opened. They were stuck with level 34 pets at best, and even those were difficult to obtain due to chain research. Necromancer seemed a lot easier out the gate. Enchanters had no clarity, bards were severely limited in their area-effect potential, very interesting environment that shakes things up a bit compared to the Kunark- and Velious-era settings P99 spent most of its history within.

Dunno what I might do if a new server came about. Nothing I made on "Green" got past the low 30's at most. Maybe dork around on stuff I've never played before to any great extent and see what comes of it.

It really depends on the extent to which the devs "fix" the resist system here now that it's well documented. Like if lull stops working entirely I probably won't roll an Enc/Clr/Pal. If they just run things back as is, then it's much less interesting.

I just don't see the appeal of classic besides hoarding legacy items. It's pretty bad otherwise.

Why have you been here for 13 years then?

I enjoy the conversations I have here with low IQ people bad at reading comprehension. In the context of what I've said previously and the topic of this, how long has it been since "here" has been classic.

Lightly criticize something a nerd enjoys and you'll get a passive aggressive retort in response as if you personally attacked them. You can milk that dynamic for stress relief for literal decades.

I've read thru this thread and all you have stated is that you hate classic EQ past Kunark, yet you're still here. I don't stalk you to see what other gems of wisdom you might have posted, I'm going by what you have here.

If you hate classic EQ, go play something else, this isn't an airport you don't need to announce your departure. If you're not leaving, then what's the point of whining you don't like it?

Let me pedantically belabor the point over my off the cuff rants in the rants and flames section, which I still enjoy despite no longer playing here. I am using "classic" to refer to the original EQ prior to expansions. You are using to to refer to release to Velious. I believe that's our main point of contention. I think "classic" is a piece of shit game that was significantly improved by Kunark and got significantly worse with Velious in terms of stratification and power creep. It's ok for me to share this opinion, obnoxiously if I see fit, on one of the few remaining places where people discuss EQ in terms of rants and flaming, retard.

At the risk of being overly repetitive, with a fresh server always maybe looming, I know I’m not the only one staring at the character select screen in my head like it’s a chess board, or a slot machine about to hit.. or maybe just a midlife crisis haha.

I’m curious though how people are actually approaching their class decisions this time around, beyond the casual “I’ll play whatever I feel like”

Are you finally rolling that race/class you’ve always said you would, but never actually do?

Or are you going back to an old main, convinced that this time you’ll be smarter, richer, and definitely won’t burn out before 60? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Do you plan ahead like a NASA launch, or an evidence board full of connections; or is it more of a just 'wing it' experience?

Does anyone go full on ocd and get their XP routes mapped, groups pre-planned, epic/quest milestones planned along the way, camps already claimed in your imagination?

What about alts?
Anyone planning a main + alt combo like you’re building a retirement portfolio? Is this the server where you specifically plan to use a legacy items like Manastone on both your main & your alt? Are you specifically playing a larger race at the start to get your Guise? Is it all part of the strategy, or are you one of the few who just constantly runs around with lucky dice in your pockets? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

When you're planning, is it for classic-only and then re-rolling? Or does your main already exist mentally in Velious from day 1? Or is just the zerg plan to guild up fast and sprint toward raid content like it’s a server-first Olympic event?

Basically: What race/class are you going to play and why? Are you min-maxing? Role-playing? Future-proofing? Or just hopping on the ride knowing full well it’s going to derail somewhere along the way [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
I'm glad you asked OP.

I made an autistic spreadsheet about this subject see Tab 3 "new green choice"
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

I thought about the things I like in game, illusions, paineel access, clickies from deity, kunark, benefit from legacy items and if they can bind at firepots.

It seems the class/race/diety combo that ticks most of those boxes is a Cleric Erudite Cazic. Will need more faction grinding but I'm writing a guide on how to do that.

That combo isn't available until Paineel drops at the very end of classic FYI.
