ya if you quit AC in 2 weeks you didnt play the game - thats like bashing orcs naked and coming back and saying eq sucks

i played AC from early 2000 to 2005...was a heck of a lot better than anything p99
I didn't play it. Never claimed to. I just know the people who did told me it was bad and discouraged me from even trying it when I was at their house. Stating that it sucked compared to EQ. And 2 weeks / half a subscription is more than enough time to tell if you like an MMO. In fact, that's generally the time period where most new MMOs fail. If you play something for 14 days and don't like it, odds are that playing it for another 5 months isn't going to suddenly fix the game for you.

Keep in mind while I never tried AC during that time period, I did try a handful of other MMOs and was able to tell relatively fast that they weren't jack compared to EQ. Anarchy Online is another prime example of this. Should I have played for another 6 months even though I found the game boring and lacking within hours of logging into it?

Something I never had a problem with EQ, WoW, Rift, even Pantheon or MnM. You don't need to force yourself to play a game you don't enjoy for months to realize it's good. It's either good or isn't.

That being said I do know a lot of people loved AC. Reckful actually started on AC. So do I think it's actual dog scat? Obvsly not. I just don't think it was overwhelmingly superior to EQ if people who played both games chose EQ instead. I also don't think if AC was overwhelmingly superior that they would have churned out an AC 2 a couple of years later.

It could also be that a person's first MMO will always hold a special place in heart. A lot of my younger friends talk about WoW the same way I talk about EQ. And ironically, a lot of them actually started WoW during a time period that historically is unpopular (cataclysm for instance), but since it was their first MMO experience, it will always hold a special place in their heart. I imagine this is similar for EQ, UO, DAOC and AC players.

I do know one thing about AC, apparently the PvP was dramatically better. Again one of the best PvPers in WoW history got his start in AC and the PvP looked intense. Something that Rallos Zek didn't really have. Very little mechanics comparatively etc.

Yep, I played with Byron quite a bit in the early era. His character was Anti Parazi and he was well known as one of the best mages.

Mage "war" spells could be dodged. Mages could control the timing of their casts and when they spells would release (faster, delayed, etc) with certain movements that would break animation. Archer missile attacks could be dodged.

The PvP mechanics were the best any MMO has ever seen, period. Guilds would battle over the best XP/loot spots.

You die you drop items, but you could protect yourself from dropping your gear by having very high value items (they were called "Death Items"). If you died too much without restocking (expensive if you were protecting very good gear) you could lose your gear, looted by the person who did the most damage to you.

Pretty classic mage pvp play here:
