Multi/Dual/Quad-Core Issues

I was able to enjoy the game (And I had blast!) from September until the October patch. I'm very tech-ignorant, and require baby steps to know exactly what to do after I have the new zip file. I'll keep in touch, until I learn. Perhaps I need delete and start from scratch. What an I say? I'm a musician. Any tips are much appreciated. Live will never be as fun again.
