All the conversations, jokes, comradery -> all lost:

You’re probably thinking of Roy Batty’s final monologue in Blade Runner (1982), delivered by Rutger Hauer as the dying replicant leader. It’s often referred to as the “Tears in Rain” speech:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

Not sure why things unrelated to P99 closing down because someone decided to illegally make money off a company's IP is "worse"

Good riddance IMO

Nah not good riddance.

A chance to hand over the keys to DBG and a salary.

That would have been better for everyone.

Compared to the monetization structure of DBG/live servers, handing them the keys to THJ would be like handing Jean Luc Picard the keys to a 1978 Ford Pinto when he's got the Enterprise D.

Whatever time Picard wastes driving that Pinto around is just not worth whatever attention he diverts from all the krono whales up there on that enterprise.

DBG knows that the type of classic EQ that draws someone to a place like P99 or perhaps even Quarm is simply incompatible with any sort of monetization structure that would be worthwhile for them to pursue. DBG knows it, and Blizzard knew it, which is why all the classic WoW servers, which were their answer to Nostalrius etc, had all sorts of monetization schemes in addition to the subscription as early as 4 months after launch. And WoW, as a franchise, is an entirely different beast with entirely different calculus vis-a-vis hype levels for the value of a subscription service model.

THJ stepped a bit too far over the line in appealing to and attracting the progression server krono whale type and was making non-negligible money off their IP. It's quite simple.

Also lol @ the Atlas Shrugged histrionics. Roy Batty? Please

Well, nost led to blizzard doing their official classic servers and that made them billions.

THJ did pull a bigger audience than the live TLPs, lots of normies and could easily bring what we experience on p99.. to a bigger audience.

Streamers were really starting to get views too, and it was really starting to pick up.

I really think THJ could have hit millions of users. It was just so much of a modern fresh game, but with a true ever quest feel.

We wont ever know now.

You are so right shovel !

Acquihire is what you want if you are a game developer or designer.

The 2 a-holes at THJ were neither. They shit in our sandbox and probably were laughing at us stupid gamers. Then their plan was "der her

I hope those 2 guys on DBG get sued into bankruptcy!

They just like Elon and JP Morgan - vile and predatory.

They *used* Akk who probably thought they just making another red99 clone.

The eqemulator discord server closing isn't related to p99?

Reiwa, i dont think they realise the p99 they love is riding on the back of the eqemu works.

Not dismissing RogBogs contributions here at all. Never have. Never would.

Just that if there was no emu server software at all I dont know if the RogBog team could do that part by themselves.

To be fair, I dont believe DBG are even interested in improving EQ in any way at all. Except to please the transactional board members (who are prolly uninterested in EQ specifically and games in general) so a salaried position was probably not even on the table.

They just wanted to assert their lawful rights as the IP holders. They dont really care about the game as we do.

One YT video i saw jad the guy say DBG could have used the THJ experience as free market research but instead just ignored it and litigated.
A win in front of the board is superior to pleasing us.
