Question What is humility and why is it good?

Hey I got a question which has been on my mind. Now you are probably not all religious but I would bet a few of you are. So in Christianity being humble is good and humility is the biggest virtue since its counterpart pride is the biggest vice or sin. It is the deadliest sin, pride.

I just don't really understand what humility is. For example, if one works out everyday to become fit and strong and good looking or if one tries to find ways to earn a lot of money, maybe even in criminal ways, and then gets the money or the strength, just to get more women to be interested in him and gets it done.

While the humble person gives up and stays humble, doesn't even workout because he doesn't want to impress anyone, and doesn't find ways to start a business or earn money, so he will also have less chances with women or none at all, because he isn't looking for a wife. If THAT'S not humility then what is? Isn't the prideful egotistic person better off in this world? I'm looking at Logan Paul and Andrew Tate here. They may get sued and Prime will fall, but even then they're still rich. Are they not better off in this world than the humble person?

Or I'm making a big stretch here, but doesn't everyone just workout to be good looking towards females? That was always the only reason I worked out, otherwise I gave up. I can be healthy and not workout at all but I'll definitely look better if I do workout. Is that not prideful? Or how can I workout and be humble? How can I search for richness and beauty and still be humble? What is it like to be humble?

Now in my opinion all the other virtues or sins are pretty self-explanatory but this pride/humility thing, I just don't get it. If you stay humble all your life, will you not end up lonely and uninterested in anything? I never really cared to start a business I thought it was way too much work, I'd rather have the 9-5 job. And with workout I stopped doing it because it felt like chasing wind, but recently I started working out again. But it IS just to impress women for me. There is no other reason I workout. That's probably why most old people don't workout anymore because they're married or won't have sex anymore.

I just don't understand why humility is better for you. Is it? Cause all those egotistical prideful people are doing a lot better, even some scammers are doing better, definitely better than the person they just scammed. Can someone explain to me what I can do to be more humble and what humility is?

Or if you want to become rich and you start a business and "work hard" as those rich entrepreneurs call it, is that not pride too? Is being humble NOT just working at a 9-5 and never trying to be an entrepreneur? Aren't all those rich entrepreneurs prideful as fuck? It just looks like that to me. Maybe I'm not getting something here, can you help me understand this better?

Or if you are in a war why shouldn't you just go on the battlefield and let yourself be killed. Turn the other cheek, or SOMETHING. Is that not pure humility? Why should you have the right to kill them and be prideful about it? How can you be humble in this world when everything teaches you to chase after money, sex, health and blah blah. HOW would a humble god pleasing person behave in this world? That's what I want to know!

Didn't we just have a thread about this not too long ago? The whole Christian ideal of humbleness being a virtue and pride being a sin is directly connected to their religion: it's not jus "pride" and "humility" in the English sense of the word.

In other words, in the Christian Mythos, it's not about being humble before other humans, it's about being humble before God (and recognizing one's limits as a mortal being).

I may have posted a similar title before but your answers were not pleasant or we wandered off to some other topic. Otherwise I would remember what you all have said. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Nowhere is it written that being humble towards God is good but being humble towards humans is NOT good. Humility is regarded as a virtue in all things. And I just want an explanation of what exactly that humility is and how it works. Cause I wrote in my post above what it looks like and I don't get it.

OR in VERY EASY simple words. Why should a God pleasing person ever want to become an entrepreneur or rich? A god pleasing person would rather donate all the money away and never try to become rich through work.

Why not just stay humble and work a normal 9-5 job all your life? Why not stay humble and never marry at all? Why even care about any of these things: money, sex? Health is different I guess because it is the temple of God and he wants you to have a healthy body. But money never had anything to do with God surely.

Have you actually read the bible? NOTHING Jesus said is in any way supportive of owning anything other than your own home and enough food to eat (let alone a company!). If you're a true Christian, owning everything that would have been considered "rich" around 0 A.D. means you're going to hell (there's that famous bible quote about it's harder for them to get into heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle).

By the literal definition of Christ's words, 99.9% of Christians on this planet are going to hell ... but the Christian faith is more than Christ's literal word.

I've read the entire New King James Version Bible. And I started reading it again from start because I bought a 275 pound NKJV Bible Black Goatskin Leather from Cambridge. IRONIC isn't it? Yes, it seems riches are bad for God. But why then are all these people striving towards wealth? If we all work 9-5 and don't spend the money then it's just gonna sit in the bank balance so we are enticed to spend it for ourselves, aren't we?

If we didn't spend it on fancy clothes and cars, then the companies would just built cheaper stuff that everyone can buy and everyone would wear similar or the same clothes and drive the same cars because everyone would have the same income. Isn't he right though? Do we really need all this wealth and rich stuff? I think not. But I see no solution. The only thing I can do is let the money sit in my bank account and not buy fancy things, but that's even more evil because then I will keep all the money for myself and never give it to others...

Jesus is asking us to donate all our money and keep the most minimum and live a humble simple life. I agree with him, that's why I'm such an awesome spender and can't control my money spendings. xD I could donate it too I guess and I've been thinking about it. But then I'd get hate from my parents. Or would I? Does Jesus really want me to donate all my money and give it to the poor? I never thought about this. Does he?

It always sounded like rich people can't go to heaven because heaven is a state of mind they can not achieve because they are always striving for more riches. Maybe a literal heaven isn't real? Or do you think the spiritual world / heaven is where we go when we are dead? It might be true. But that doesn't answer the question of what I'm supposed to do with my money. I got about 9k euros in the bank right now. What am I supposed to do with it?

The ransom was paid and always will be paid for those who believe in Him.
