Default Message Intercept/Paladin Message - Mojax doesn't act right

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...html?quest=361

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...html?quest=587

I'm not fully sure how he is supposed to act, based on these, but it seems

1. After giving him milk, he should path somewhere
2. He is pickpocketed on the way to that location
3. He may path around the zone and drop his note somewhere

On this server:

1. He doesn't path at all
2. He is instantly pickpocketed after handing in milk
3. He doesn't drop his note

Okay so I rewrote a lot of this, works a lot better.

I still have questions:

-Should Duggin only go after Mojax while Mojax is pathing?
-Should Mojax only have a note in his loottable when he is walking to the ground spawn location? If Duggin steals the note, how long does it take for Mojax to replenish it?
-Did Mojax originally walk around the zone (not towards the way marker) and drop the note somewhere, or is that how it works now in the revamped Commons on live?

I gave a bottle of milk to the fisherman sitting down and he gave a message about the not being in a bedroll in the inn.
Then some other guy jumps out of nowhere and runs off saying he has the note.
The first time I did this I couldn't catch the guy and then the fisherman started walking off aimlessly.
In frustration I gave him another bottle of milk and hes says that he hid the note near a marker nearby.
I went to the marker and found that a note has appeared there.
I tried this quest later, because I wanted to take my frustration out on the guy who runs.
You can get also get the note by killing him.
Either way give the note to Eastyana in the Hall of Truth and she will give xp, money and a random item.

Message Retrieval
Sulfuric | 1/10/2000 5:00:20 PM

In the hall of truth, go to the top floor there is 2 trainers. The one against the wall has two quests available. tell him you will retrieve the message. then go to west commons by the lake there is a man sitting down by the lake hail him and give him a bottle of milk. turn around and another npc will come running from the inn. he will take the message and you have to kill him and you get a message to give to an NPC named Eestyana Naestra. I am having trouble finding this person. any help would be appreciated
The above comments suggest Duggin would spawn even when Mojax was stationary.

Being that i am an evil inkie of Innoruuk i was wondering around the lake in WC and killing any green npc's that i saw. I stumbled upon a human fisherman that was meditating (the name eludes me) and made short work of him, he dropped 12cp and a note. something about an agent sent in on the shrine of bertuxx. that was discovered and to beware of this freeport-qeynos. what quest is this for? Mojax Hikspin

You don't actually get the note from killing Mojax, you have to talk to him. Hail him and he'll complain that he can't fish all day because he has to do his job, ask him what his job is and he'll say he's a messenger for Antonius Bayle. Wait a minute or so and he'll get up and drop the note by the marker, you can pick it up from there and kill him afterwards just for fun (be prepared to chase him because he's weak and will run away). I didn't know this at first and killed him several times without talking to him, he never had the note on his corpse. Killing him yields the same faction adjustments as listed above and also raises faction with the Dismal Rage. When I gave the note to Raltur, he didn't give me a spell scroll but it did lead into the Bayle List quest which I haven't completed yet. The traitor quest doesn't come from turning the note to Raltur, for that you have to give the note to Sir Lucan Dlere. You can get the note from Mojax more than once and turn it in to each of them (Raltur and Lucan) to do both quests.

You can solo Mojax at 5th or 6th level, depending on your equipment. Have a HT ready if you're not twinked. He *does* drop the note, but not every time. If Merteuil's method works every time, then it's better unless you just like killing Paladins.

There is often another NPC next to Mojax (Skippyn or something like that) who is one level higher and conned Threatening to my Dark Elf SK. I was able to pull Mojax with arrows several times without Skip aggroing, though.

Faction Changes
By: Anonymous
Posted @ Wed, Oct 18th 1:23 PM 2000

I did this quest three times last night. A few things have changed.

First, as a Troll SK you cannot hail Mojax, you must kill him to get the note. He doesn't drop it every time, more like 1-in-3. Second, there is no longer any reward other than faction. Third, the factions have been changed. It's only DismalRage - better, OpalDarkbriar - better, KnightsofTruth - worse.

I don't think Mojax pathing or some other condition determined whether or not he had the note in his loottable. Examining the accounts above, we see the note appears to be like any other loot that can load in the loottable on spawn. All of these players appear to be evil-aligned and talk about killing Mojax outright. They couldn't have successfully given him milk even if they tried, so there was no Duggin spawned to steal the note. Even so, there were times when Mojax didn't have it in his loottable when killed.

Grygus describes pulling Mojax "several times" from his spawn point next to Skipynn suggesting Mojax was not pathing at the time. Rhuobhe specifically notes Mojax meditating when he killed him which indicates that Mojax was stationary at his spawn point when he dropped the note. I think Duggin "stealing" the note is likely just RP flavor.

I have just done the first part of this quest, and I didn't need to do anything with water/milk etc.

I found two guys by the lake, and spoke to them, saying the phrase that Theron asked me to say (Can't remember what the phrase was, but it was something like 'I'm from the hall of truth').

Nothing happened for a while, but then one of the guys got up and wandered off. I followed him, and he went to the stone sign pointing to Freeport, and dropped a note on the floor, saying 'I've been hiding this here, give it to Eestyana of the Temple of Marr'. Of course, Eestyana isn't in the Temple of Marr, but I read a post above that says she's in the Hall of Truth, so I'll look for her there.

The npc that has the note is Mojax Hikspin, he spawns by the lake in WC,
you will usally see him sitting by a guy fishing next to the inn, if you
wait a bit he just gets up walks over to the marker, drops the note, mumbles
something about giving it to Eestyana Naestra (I think that is the lady)
Or you can just kill him like I did and get the note.

Find Mojax Hikspin and hail him. He will tell you about the fishing. Wait around for about 4 or 5 minutes and he will get up and walk away. Follow him and he will walk to a marker and drop something. He will tell you to deliver the item to Eestayana (SP) in Freeport. She is in the Hall of Truth, not Temple of Marr, on the 3d floor. You will get experience, faction and she gave me a 4 slot wrist pouch. The only negative is you get negative faction with the West Freeport Guard. I don't know how much, but if you're barely able to get into West Freeport without being KOS, you may not want to do this quest just yet.
It doesn't read as if milk was traded to Mojax in any of these comments, nor is there any reference to Duggin spawning, so I don't think Mojax's route as described is specific to any quest script. One commenter mentions hailing him, another uses the quest phrase (but no milk traded), and another suggests just waiting for Mojax to path; in all instances, the route appears the be the same. I think occasionally pathing to the stone marker is his Classic behavior.

Fixed, pending update

Thanks for the additional research. It was mostly how I wrote it the first time, so should look a lot better.
