Can anyone explain the current raid rules to a new P99er?

For end game, you get out what you put in. You're not automatically handed a set of BIS just for zoning in like in some other games. But the game can be enjoyable while raiding even if you don't intend to go for BIS gear.

Perhaps, but there is strong merit in why these rules exist. I've been here since 2013 and was invited to have <Just A Phase> partake in the raid council devised by Derubael, to which we declined. So i've certainly seen first hand from all sides of the fence just how ugly things are.

The raid scene has more or less always been marred by individuals I strongly prefer not to associate with. There are of course always outliers and exceptions, but by and large being in the top end guild meant you were enduring many things I personally do not agree with.

Its unfortunate we need so many rules in place to mitigate things that really in my mind should not be happening at all. If I had my way, I'd delete them all and let chaos reign. Sleep in the bed you've made and all that. But, it's pretty easy to enjoy the game without needing BIS. Really just boils down to what you want to extract from this relic of a game.

Sanctum and TSS have found their niche, and they can schedule raids during drafts and other server events just like anybody else.

You don't have to be in Riot to enjoy this server.

If there are other players who actually want to adventure instead of doing boring raids and camps. Although even with more willing people, the game suffers from not having a mechanism that rewards "adventuring".

And most of the top end Velious gear should just be removed from game. All it does is devalue content by unnecessarily increasing the power level of characters, and make grouping less active. (also unbalances PvP a lot)

The reward for adventuring IS the adventure! Lots of people lose focus and forget it's not the destination that matters but the journey it self.
