they didn't decide to go the shitty graphic style wow clone because they wanted to,

they had to pivot after Brad claimed people wanted old everquest or w/e and only raised 200k in a week on kickstarter instead of funding in like an hour.

true enlightenment is realizing it's not the kids doing this to you and everquest, but everquest and you having already done this 26 years ago to TTRPGs

I'm trying to learn legit Nethack right now and the controls are more fucked up than Dwarf Fortress

barrier of entry is feature not a bug, casuals ruin everything. C.R.E.A.M dolla dolla bills yall.

So it follows the same formula of killing a rat, then moving to the next zone to kill a bigger rat, then moving to the next zone and killing a bigger rat. Gonna be a pass for me

This describes almost every game ever, in a sense.

And then you and 50+ of your friends kill the rat-god and divvy up pieces of it's carcass.

I remember when brad was still alive he posted on somethingawful, and he made a thread for pantheon in the games subforum and everyone just ran him off the forum. Nothing but hostility, made me sad. Dude wasn't perfect but I mean cmon, he was clearly a fellow huge nerd like the rest of us.
Brad will always be a legend. He followed a similar path to John Romero in that he changed video game history, lost the company he founded, and failed spectacularly when he tried to recover from that loss. Big deal. We all fuck up, but most of us never succeed on a high enough level to be granted the opportunity to fuck up on as grand a scale as Brad or John.

Long live Brad. I hope Pantheon honors his legacy.

What’s make or break is:

- is the gameplay loop engaging and entertaining? Even if it’s repetitive, as long as it’s engaging, people will run that treadmill

- can a player separate themselves from the pack through clever use of game mechanics or gear choices? Without being able to separate selves by merit, people tend to lose interest

That’s off the top of my head. But yes just repetitive gameplay is not a game killer on its own. Just look at moba’s and battle royale fps

You almos got a whoah out of me, until I realized we were wearing converse, and the kids today are wearing crocks.

You're wrong.

You're wrong! What we did to TTRPGs was fucking AWESOME and idiots have tried to follow our generation and failed every time.

It's like, you're saying 90s anime ruined anime, because the anime in 2020 sucks.

NO!

That's just classic wokie brainwashing.

"we're all immigrants"

shut the f up no we aren't some of us are pioneers.
