north koreans apparently already know how much better the outside world is, having a portable dvd player and pirated western movies or south korean tv shows is more common than we think.

Need to do it in secret otherwise you and your family will be put in gulag or executed. Plus those are just normal peasants, not soldiers with wartime experience and potential upstarts who may get the wrong ideas.
