I firmly believe the reason all of this stayed rare as hell was to make sure that people kept paying that $9.99 monthly fee. I think only Brad wanted shit to be this hard...the devs thought otherwise.

989 Studios has announced that it has dropped the price of its retail version of EverQuest to US$39.99, just in time to add more gamers to its massively multiplayer online universe. After the free trial month, players will pay US$9.89 per month to access the game. Currently, the company has an active subscriber base of over 150,000 players and has hosted up to 40,000 players at one time.
