literally no one in the west understands those symbols yet, there's just a shitload of speculation, russia hasn't done it before. Best guess its that they need to be able to discern their hardware from ukrainian hardware from a long distance like aircraft and drone, because the ukrainians have alot of the same exact hardware. its less of an issue by the day as ukrainians have seen the fastest military modernization in human history.

Z doesn't even appear in the cyrillic alphabet, so its a different symbol. and there are others that look like W, V and other symbols.
