Because our government sold us out in exchange for potential soft power.

They pushed manufacturing over to China in the hopes that we would turn them into loyal capitalists.

Nope lol
What happens if China builds a factory to compete with our factory and it has way lower material and labor costs?

that pretty much sums up the last 40 years of geo-politics.

Should we keep operating our expensive factory at an (opportunity?) loss?

government subsidized wages, like the "America Works" plan from House of Cards.

That plan would all but eliminate unemployment, it would drive innovation, and it would raise the standard of living for all poor people. The best part of it is, the majority of those subsidized wages would be taxed right back into the gov'ts pocket in one shape or another.

AmWorks, would actually work.

thats why we'll never see anything like it.

Well all China is really doing is providing the cheap labor.

Any factory buildings/companies are usually American, owned by Americans.

So it's not China building better and cheaper. It's China allowing Americans to put their factories in China.

So anyone with power is connected to these rich American industrialists in China making bank. So nothing will get done.

We've never had a situation where a nation's entire manufacturing gets uprooted and transferred to another country, but it sure feels wrong.

I've got a protectionist streak to me and I'm not all about 100% turbo capitalism.

A country is an eco-system. We don't allow strange fish into our rivers without making sure the river is fine. We should treat our economy and industries the same.

At the very least, consider moving manufacturing to Mexico. They're closer and friendlier and better quality.

We put ourselves at risk in multiple ways with our current setup.

You can't just rip the entire soul out of the Rust Belt and just say "Adapt."

You usually find another job before you quit your current one.

Ah so that’s why

Trump Rolls Back Train-Braking Rule Meant to Keep Oil Tankers from Exploding Near Communities

GOP to blame again.

Quote:
Trains that carry oil and other flammable material won’t have to install electronically controlled brakes that reduce the risk of train derailments and explosions after the reversal by Trump officials of an Obama-era safety rule.

I saw I think the first 3 seasons but don't really remember it except him telling the union guy he'd cum on his face.

I meant the subsidized wage thing though.
