My wife hasn't got it on account of several of her doctors recommending against it due to her specific health concerns. We did not get it for our daughter because there appears to be no significant need to do so, children's risk factor being minimal by all accounts. I did not get it primarily as political protest; I regarded and still regard the federal government's attempt to push and its use of corporations in a constitutional end-around it as unacceptably totalitarian for a republic. I made protest against the various mandates at numerous locations from about mid 2020 into 2021. Responses ranged from limited support to shouting, threats, being shoved or spit on or otherwise assaulted, permanently barred from numerous stores, and escorted away by police on some occasions. Probably the only reason I wasn't outright arrested was I happened to know most of the officers in question or they at least knew my name due to family connection. The wife has also been treated poorly by a lot of people, including some family members, in spite of her own refusal being medically grounded. Neither of us have received so much as a single apology to date.

The folks who we've talked to it about and encouraged to get it fall into the same at-risk groups you describe.

I want to thank you for the well thought reply. That must have been very difficult to endure but I think it will have a positive long-term affect on you, and your children's life. I had a hard time knowing that anyone in authority I interacted with in WA state was vaccinated. If I opened my jaw and professed I did not believe in the vax in any of these interactions with government, I was immediately cast off as a lunatic, and given extra suspicion and neglect on account of my " History of non-compliance "

What gets me is, 1984, Anthem, brave new world, a multitude of literature describes an example of a society that is highly regulated, controlled, human rights are non existent, they were normally cited, used as examples like a drum beat.

Suddenly, these books did not exist, or were immediately disregarded as hyperbole, and we would never reach a point where someone scanned your phone for a generated barcode to enter a grocery store. We reached that point in Canada. In AUS they had actual camps people were sent to, with wire fenced, locked door, and imposed HEAVY fines of $5000+ for minor infractions.
