Default Returning after 20 years, nostalgia is a helluva drug...

Hello all!

I started playing EQ in 99/2000 with a group of gamer highschool friends and played through until PoP. Fond memories had been welling up for a few years now, after casually mentioning the game to a more contemporary group of gamer friends p99 was mentioned.

Back in the day I was a Gnome Necro on Bertoxx server, made it to lvl 62 before quitting cold turkey due to burn out. Loved it all; grouping, questing (although I never got my epic [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] ), raids at the later stage of the game, pimping your toon out. Now I'm ready to be a filthy casual all over again on Green.

This time around I'm rolling an Iksar necro, Hynolim, named after my original toon from Live back in the day.

Looking forward to the re-discovery of it all, happy hunting!

Welcome back!

It’s funny what brings us back. I just returned to P99 myself about a month ago. The reason? The smell of a dude’s cologne. No joke, super odd but the dude was doused in this crap from the 90s. Can’t exactly remember the name of it but I want to say it was called “Aqua Blue”. Used to be able to buy it at Anchor Blue or Miller’s Outpost.

For whatever reason, it poked the EverQuest center of my brain. Ended up hopping on green and finding my guild from blue. Rest is history. Now I play a Gnome Magician by the name of Buckshort.

If you need anything and see me in game, give me a tell!

Hey, and thanks for the offer!

I see myself toiling around FoB for the next while. But I'll give you a tell if I see you online.

I used to play Everquest with my window open in the fall/winter because of how hot CRT monitors and old PCs would get. I remember I would smell skunks outside every once and a while. Still to this day any roadkill smell makes me want to play EQ. I know weed smells like this too, but the smell of skunky weed doesn't trigger it. Just roadkill...

Welcome back my virtual friend! I recently returned as well ... but I usually break off the game for months and then come back.,,

I always come back though ... hard to shake the feeling ....

I mostly jump from EQ P99, to City of Heroes Homecoming to EVE to LOTRO to others games, then do the cycle again, there is something about old games, specially online ones from back in the day that keep me coming back.

Something lacking in the newer ones, too focused on microtransactions and even some oldies like EVE and LOTRO sold out to that.

But one of the things I like the most about EQ is how weird it is regarding MMOs ... I find it so ... tinged with potential.

Like a very old theme park where you got your first kiss or where you stole your first candy and is now ruined , you can live some of that nostalgia back ...

For me part of the nostalgia is reliving a very specific moment now so long gone it is ... warped beyond recognition.

But then I walk around Neriak or Qeynos and it comes back! Its not about leveling , its a 23 year old game , its mostly now about discovering new things in the old box.

So like everyone here I know what you feel.

Enjoy it. Life is so fleeting and as I grow older there are less and less things I enjoy more, so eq is amazing in that it still brings that old spark. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
