These threads pop up regularly enough that I have to wonder why the GMs don't tell people why they get banned. What's the point of not telling people why you're punishing them when they might have done something wrong without knowing it? They won't realize why it happened. It seems like it'd be less trouble to send them a tell or e-mail with a brief reason than it is to reply to every post they inevitably make wondering why the hell they were banned. If the bans were mistakes, as has been known to happen, then giving a reason for the ban would let the player immediately know how to address it and appeal. If it was a justified ban but the player didn't know they were doing something wrong, that seems to be the right time for them to learn. If they were knowingly doing something wrong, the five seconds it takes to type a tell isn't exactly a big waste considering the other cases where it would have been helpful.

I'm sure we have lost players to mistake bans who had no idea why they got banned and didn't know how to appeal. Petitions can take a pretty long time to resolve or even get an answer, and if they had been told they were banned for 2-boxing when in reality they just had no idea that someone else on their campus wifi also played p99 or something, they'd at least know why it happened and how to approach the GMs.

I'm just a little worried about the number of threads to the tune of "I'm a new player, I just got banned and I have absolutely no idea why it happened." Seems like the best way to lose players. It's happening up to several times a week. Is there an actual reason why you ban people without even telling them what they did?

There are other things we ban for without warning. No discussion about the matter can take place outside of the petition/exploits forum though.

I haven't banned anyone in at least 5 days so, it wasn't me.

Ektar is both right and wrong here. Yes. give it more time. Far more than 15 hours most likely....

It might be several days before you get a response depending on the volume of posts in the petition forum. My best advice to you is to be patient and not throw a hissy fit. I have no idea what happened so don't know what your situation is.

Good Luck!

**EDIT**

To be clear - the italicized green part above is just in general. not saying you are throwing a hissy fit here - i'm just saying don't freak out and be rude or indignant because it took a week to get a response.
Thanks for the response, this would be the second time I have had contact with a GM, the first was in game, and it was you heh, when my corpse was invisible in crushbone and you had to help me retrieve it <Lusion> you seem very nice.

however to lose "a few days" to a ban when I have done nothing wrong and not even know why? I can see why your cautioning against "throwing a hissy fit" cause that would be enough to send even the most level headded person into one, I mean really, if they can be that quick to ban without warning, I see no reason it should take a week or even more than a day to get answers and resolve the issue.

Two things to bear in mind though, we have classic eq back, and the staff work for free. I think people lose sight of this sometimes.

You have classic eq back, the free staff banned me just when I was really starting to enjoy playing again, in all seriousness with the free time I have I had all intentions of volunteering my time to help out how I could once I had a good feel for the game back, cause I think its a great thing they are doing, I just dont agree with the stealth ban hammer to the back of the head.[You must be logged in to view images. I wouldn't worry about the trolls. It sucks, but it seems all you can do is make your petition in the correct place, let it work its course, and hope it doesn't take too long. I don't know, maybe you'll even get a temporary xp boost for lost time, or some other perk for the mistake, assuming it was a mistake.

yea, I just hate the wait you know? I am bored and wanting to play, the trolls dont bother me, I am pretty easy going, as long as its not a personal attack I can shrug off just about anything.
