Also, people often misunderstand human trafficking as like some Philippino girl brought in chains to America for sex work. Yes that’s a form of human trafficking but that’s not what occurs in Honduras, El Salvador, etc. Their version is a bit more benign

It starts with a parent desperate to give their kid a better life. They take their life savings to a Coyote, which is essentially a gang member, to hire them to smuggle their kid into America. The coyote fills their heads with tales about how great America will be for their kid and how their kid will have all this money and healthcare and job opportunities, whether or not it’s true doesn’t matter. These coyotes are not good people, they want to get paid, and will say whatever they need to to get the desperate parent to fork over their lifetime savings from working at as a street vendor to smuggle their kid to America

Along the way, no one is there to see what occurs but the Coyote and the kid. And there’s no Better Business Bureau to make sure these smugglers are treating their product decently. It is a completely different kind of human trafficking than my first example, but still categorically the same
