The biggest mistake people in 'lesser' guilds make is thinking you play more in the top end guilds.

I can log in, attack a mob and log out in under 3 minutes sometimes if I so feel. If I want to pull it, add 1-2 minutes. If I want to track it I can spend as little or as much time as I want.

Casual guilds like kittens/castle/whatever sometimes spend more time just assembling at the zone in and discussing what to kill than Vanqriot spend on an entire log in, coth, pull, kill, port out.
And you talk as if you've never blown off an obligation, whether to work, relations, school or your own sleep to kill a dragon for 3 minutes. Which is disingenuous. Btw, 3 minutes just gets you on the attendence list. You're not even a warm body at that point. Way to stand in line for your free loot nuthanger.

That's how modern WoW had gotten before I quit raiding. People always assumed that because I played WoW and was a successful raider that I must be playing 12+ hours a day. In actuality my guild usually cleared all content in 3 hours, and then spent the rest of the week with nothing to do. I was actually upset with this, it felt like you could only play WoW at the most... 5 hours a week because Arena teams were also static back then, so once you did your weekly cap (1-2 hours tops), you were further incentivized to stop playing to secure your rating.

I don't feel this is the case with EverQuest though. Someone who is comfortably in a raid position may feel this way, but a newer player looking to join up is probably looking at a lot of no lifering to get that point, no?

I've never had a job that would let me blow off work for anything that wasn't majorly serious. This must be a white collar thing, hehe.

Recondo literally no one gives a fuck about WoW please stop bringing it up on an EQ forum constantly. If anything it makes you look like a giant asshole because people come to P99 specifically to get away from shit like WoW. No one knows what you're talking about.

i mean, what else are you gonna do if you're disabled and unemployed
This

I remember this dude in vanilla WoW who was on basically 24/7. He was a part of our PvP crew. Was such a freak that he got rank 14 and basically sat at rank 12-13 after that every week for no benefit, he just played that much (to anyone who knows how crazy the pvp ranking system was in vanilla and how much time it required)

We used to talk shit behind his back, calling him a loser, etc. Then I found out from him that he had an injury to his spine at work, lost the use of his legs, and was in a wheelchair, on disability since. I felt like the biggest douche for talking smack

There are some people who abuse social services and sit on disability because they claim to be too fat or too anxious to work or whatever, but they are the minority. It would be unfair to assume everyone on disability is milking it

Is bet money you've been late for trivial selfish reasons at some point in your life.

Careful now. If you start to acknowledge the plights of others and let go of your rage that somewhere, someone might be taking advantage of shitty benefits, you're on the path to becoming a radical librul feminazi communist.

The only legitimate disabled person I have met on P99 is Norm, and he plays less than almost anyone and seems to live a normal life despite his injury.

Ha, well TANIF is different. TANIF otherwise known as welfare, stands for TEMPORARY assistance for NEEDY families. It was originally intended to temporarily help out a family who due to circumstances outside their control could not provide for their kids, until the parent(s) could get the situation back under control. It was not intended to be a lifelong free source of money for a single parent who chose to shit out 7 kids PURPOSEFULLY to get on TANIF because word of mouth spread about how to get free money from the government for life

And there ARE a shitload of people who do just that, and a government who supports their choices. But that’s neither here nor there

A guild can be wildly successful with 10-20 people doing virtually all of the heavy lifting while the rest just respond to batphones to just tank/heal/dps. People with 10% raid attendance are incredibly valuable and can do that with a job/family. One just needs to temper expectations from getting full best in slot to the much cheaper 2nd/3rd best items.
