Yeah, I prepared settlements for a few accidents when I worked for an attorney years ago. I don't think it will be worth it to involve one, and I can probably handle it all myself. I try to be reasonable with people as long as they're reasonable with me, but he's not learning very quickly.

I really do appreciate all of the advice. Having some direction really helps.

Believe it or not they're actually trying to dick me over on the payout. I saved them a couple grand on medical bills by skipping out on the hospital. I dare them to try their luck at a jury trial on this one.
insurance people are the fucking devil man.. they get paid to try to not pay people..

I've had several really strongly worded conversations with geico and other big name companies when i was 100% not at fault and they didnt wanna do shit like cover a rental until the other company settles and shit....

all those damn commercials acting like they are out to help people but they are just trying to fix their bottom line.

Ow. There is indeed little to be done in this [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Never, ever brace for any impact.
Wouldn't that somewhat depend on the situation? Like... If someone is gonna hit you from behind, if I saw it in time, I'd at least try to get my head back to the neckguard/head cushion for support...

Prevention is the biggest thing.
I'll sign that. I have a couple of precautions, including some of those you mentioned, and then also a self-teaching of patience: Every now and then, when I want to get off the highway, I don't overtake "just that one more car" but instead get on the right lane and slow down early. Just to teach myself that the few extra meters aren't worth speeding / doing last second lane changes.

And then I always expect the worst possible behaviour from other drivers / even pedestrians, and drive in a way that would reduce the impact if they really behave accordingly.

Thanks for sharing!

Glad you're OK Uth.

If it were me...I'd find the most underhanded ambulance chaser I could and take the dipshit's insurance company to the cleaners.

You REALLY are lucky to have lived through that at all, bro.

Peace.
