It's pretty much entertaining for a few years, then the novelty wears off. (Ok I realize this is pretty much all you can ask of most games, but I'm putting this out there, having been a CEO and alliance leader for 3-4 years before quitting). EVE combat just isn't fun, even 0.0 wars and piracy. EVE economy isn't that fun. The lack of avatars starts to take its toll on your psyche.

The best thing about it is the player corporations in which you'll meet some of the most focused and dedicated comrades you may ever find in any game, because the community is generally superior to most any other game you'll find. And I believe that unconsentual pvp should be a major tenet to any mmo.

But in the end, it will disappoint you. The skill system is irl-time-based, not skill based. It's starting to show major weaknesses. Established players will have a gargantuan advantage over you that you might never overcome, even given loads of talent and aggressive play style. The combat is just plain boring and purely numbers-based with few options for mixing up roles. The politics are a vomitous mass of regurgitated diarrhea because the people in charge of various factions are usually mouthbreathers with a lot of time on their hands.

I would strongly counsel to wait for the next big thing.
