The key is to try to stop before we go to far lol. Not wait till after the fact to try and turn around. I can really respect people on the right for seeing the writing on the wall. Conservatives are tuned better towards survival and pragmatism and generally being more independent.
I personally believe less people would die under fascism, than communism, and I feel it would be easier to heal from fascism. That dichotomy isn't exactly 'left or right' both sides could eventually reach the same end points given the proper circumstances.
That is why people are reacting and voting out of fear. Which isn't good. And is obviously. Scary. Lol.
