Sherman’s March was monstrous but it worked out for America. Alderaan had like 2 million souls tops on it so in the grander scheme of things it was a merciful choice. The Death Star probably had more contributing citizens on it anyway. No one weeps for them though when some kid manipulated by the priests and exploited through the death of his family found it necessary to destroy a 20 year job creating project. They celebrated it.
