Hrmm. i dunno about that. Rogues were pretty absurd for quite awhile. I'd solo entire groups of same level players near blackrock frequently. highest single target dps in the game and incredibly strong in PvP. Vanish/sprint for getting out of ganks or finishing them off. Sap/eye gouge to troll the fuck out of people. Warlocks were really strong, too, at different periods of time early on. There was a period where if they could land fear you pretty much instantly lost the fight, and then soul-link period where they could beat just about anyone one on one who'd stay to fight them. They were pretty shitty or PvE though depending on the time periods.

The thing about mages is they were much like rogues in they were strong in PvP and PvE, but unlike rogues they required virtually zero skill to be very strong in both those areas.
Yeah, and they've also had entire expansion packs where they weren't even playable. They were so garbage during Cataclysm that the dev team literally, on record, said they gave them Legendaries so people would play them. Mist of Pandaria, Rogues were so bad, that Ghostcrawler came under heavy fire for making a blue post talking about how no one plays the class. They have had many strong moments, but have also spent about 50% of the time being completely bad. Mages have never had an expansion pack where they weren't top tier.
