NPC in question had the same first name as OP.

The ‘botter’ Was running some sort of automated program that would kill this npc automatically for him while he was afk.

OP suspected this and created the char just to see. When OP got nearby, botterboys script ran but targeted OP instead of NPC. Proving he was utilizing an automated kill NPC system.

they are trying to do less work, not more. so perhaps from their perspective, other people are willing to go through incredible lengths by not automating earning exp.

In EK on an ranger selling all the words I got off griffs at the vendors near gorge. I notice there is a bard there that looks to be playing healing song. Haven't seen bard NPCs actually play songs before, so I was intrigued - I thought bard NPCs were warriors with less hp/ac. Then she gets pulled by halfling cleric tucked away behind the house on the east side just behind the vendor house I was selling at. So I ask him how the exp is and no response. His name is warrio, but he was a cleric so I asked him about his name choice. All of this no response. He was in zone for a long time. Before I logged I checked him on /who but he didn't show up. Also, very interesting, and I ask him about how he managed to get that name, and if he knew he couldn't be /who'd.

I decide to see what he's up to (since no response to any tells) and so I go back over to where he is before I /camp for the night. Same spot, same mob. I asked again how's the exp, no response (during/after fight) so I figure he just doesn't wanna talk because he's clearly at his keyboard fighting.

I started to wonder if he really was at his keyboard since he is in the exact same spot as before. As I watch him, my suspicion grows. Same order of events, same mob, no looting, no response to tells.

I'm like... okay this is weird, but I had to go. I log.

Very solid work, but the sad part is I doubt he really cares that he was caught. He will just create a new account and start botting again. If you're able to just bot and kill things non-stop for 24 hours a day by having it be automated, I would imagine you level pretty quickly and therefore don't care about losing one account since you can get back to that level with very little work very easily.

This guy will be back in some other name/form, so everyone should be keeping an eye out for this type of behavior in order to spot him.
