ow does wn skill work?
A few quick questions about weapon skills. I just made an ogre warrior and was raising the skill in each weapon type so I would never be left with a good weapon and no skill to use it. How does skill translate to hit/miss rate and are there level caps? How high of a skill would be good enough to swap for the next type in order to keep the rank raised without causing them to be too low to be useful (thinking jack of all trades = master of none)

Keeping Weapon skills high allows you to be able to hit with them.
Hit and miss calculated basically off mob lvl, ac and class. | ||

On p99, really the only ones to worry about keeping a little higher are the 2 handers. In a group, you can max out your one handers within less then half a level of dual wielding each for the most part, and all the misses don't even detract from aggro generation.

At some point after lvl 40 your other skills will stop going up because they will be maxed or close to max.

broadly speaking in vanilla i think you'll want your 1HS, Piercing and 2HS capped at every level. Which really isn't difficult past level 6 or so (at the very begining sure you might level up faster than it takes to cap them all), don't worry.
1HB and 2HB I'm at 21 and I'll raise them if I have a reason to at some point, but I'm not worried. Finally, keep in mind that DEX is the attribute that determines weapon skill-ups. so when you are specifically trying to raise one weapon type you might wanna ask a shaman for some DEX buff, it will help a little!
