we have independent connections through the school (on campus apartments), I'm not sure if this assigns an IP that is unique enough or not (I know we're behind a giant router on a corporate connection but that's about it...)

You should be good then, different subnets should be plenty of space. I'd imagine the only check they do is if they are matching exactly (but I don't actually know).

I'm not terribly educated in the whole situation, but I do know that they try to keep the connections as separate as possible and the whole system is very very restricted
