Seems like every enchanter in my leveling cohort doesn't even charm, but I don't have the balls to scold them for driving their ferrari 35 mph down the freeway.

Wrong. The shortest distance between two points is zero, and that's what the gateway does, it folds space so that point “A” and point “B” coexist in the same space and time. When the spacecraft passes through the gateway, space returns to normal.

I'd expect nothing else. Not the filling part, but the reuse of the same poor zinger that you think equates to a mad nerd on the other end. Really, it just makes me disappointed that this is what shit talk has come to.
