Here on P1999 it feels like the NPC's are given a far more complete set of spell gems to use and they will wreck your day at the drop of a hat. It's a good feeling.
I believe this is actually an existing bug report in that NPC's have access to their entire spellbook instead of a limited set. I'd link it but my skill in searching is stuck at zero until I find a trainer.

I am thankful we got rid of Epic MQ's by adding 46 level restriction to them because now its like World of Warcraft where only the appropriate level has access the appropriate items and we can all breathe easy again.

Today's "There's Nothing Like Everquest" moment:

Accidentally destroyed my progress in the Qeynos badge quest by forgetting to sneak before turning in item to investigator in the sewers. Maybe eight hours of total time spent on the questline by then, done over the course of weeks as I could find people willing to help. Died three or four times during it. Time to start all over again.

I think the closest WoW ever got was that massive robot that roams in Hellfire Pennsylvania
And the Abomination mobs in Duskfall and Ghostlands. Still it really can't compare to stuff like the ghoul messenger, hill giant, griffin etc. I think that pre-Cata WoW is a very good MMO but in its own way and should not be compared to Everquest which has a completely different design philosophy. More casual MMOs can still be good.

I think the ring of combines spell at 24 makes perfect sense and I used it for sure to do the following:

1). Cast ring of combines and land in a very safe and mob free section of DL.

2). Cast levitate on myself.

3). Cast camo on myself to become invisible.

4). Run through tunnel and keep running way high in the sky well above any mobs so I am safe even if invis drops.

5). Come back to the ground only when I reach FV zoneline and zone into FV.

6). Keep invis on and run carefully to LoiO.

7). Kill everything around sarnak fort till I turned 30 or so.

8). Head into FM and kill giants till I reach 39 and have a forrest loop or two.

9). Head back to DL and quad kite yetis till 45.

10). Head to KC but stay in DL and quad everything around the castle till I hit 50.

And all that started with Ring of Combines when I was lvl 24 :P

Dying in WoW just didn’t carry the same weight like it did in EQ , just a minor time inconvenience. Spirit Rez to get corpse back if needed too. The repair cost “penalty” wasn’t an issue until you had full epic quality armor and even then it’s relatively minor

So my druid recently gained access to the level 24 tier of spells. I went and collected all of them, including Ring of Combines. This spell transports the character to the Dreadlands, a place where a level 24 character can die instantly and easily. Seriously there is absolutely no place for a level 24 character here.
My point is this spell should have been bumped up to the level 34 tier (at least). But this is Everquest, and frequently your character will have to traverse through areas where they have no hope of defeating enemies. I look at WoW and other modern online games, and they just don't have anywhere close to the feeling of extreme danger that Everquest has (or had in Live).
That's why mastering a trade skill or achieving max level is so much more impressive in Everquest than in any modern online game.
Hey guys mastering a trade skill is rewarding because this guy can teleport to Dreadlands!
