That's an interesting article. I can't classify myself as a centrist. I think strong democratic institutions and wiggle room is important, a-long with a good heady mixture of checks and balances and decentralization of authority. But these are BIG words and not readily apparent, and doesn't mean it works one way in all cases (how good would a 50 state NATO / federation really be compared to our military industrial complex? actually this may be a bad example, because that idea already sounds kinda cool).
I think too many people are disinterested in the truth, and unable, and unwilling to spend the time researching the truth, and the biggest failing of our institutions is that we the people no longer hold our politicians accountable for their actions, words, lies, and the groups they work for an associate with, and utilize to gain money, spread, and cement, group think.
