Introduction/Looking for advice. Brand new to Everquest

To start you can’t go much wrong with a halfling or wood elf druid. Relatively easy wisdom caster to play and doesn't need expensive gear.

If a melee character is wanted, maybe a human monk starting in Freeport.

Imo rogues are the best newbie melee... High demand little need to know...just stab things... Monks can get complex late game
