The trunks are transparent is really my biggest beef. I opt for a nice solid color with at minimum 4 inches above the knee to show off my thighs.

Haha don't you worry Sioux, I ain't mad! Growing up in the 80's/90's I never really shook the whole shorts length of our generation haha. To the knee was a requirement as a boy growing up, and as a teenager, and then as a young adult haha. Then before i knew it, my lovely city of seattle filled up with hipsters who changed the requirement to way above the knee. Denim. Ripped. And uncomfortably tight....
