So to start, I played around Kunark launch to somewhere after the 2 xpacs after PoP. I mained a monk, and was the primary one for our guild raids. I also played Ranger quite a bit. I'm trying to play something different and out of the norm. I have been looking for something to scratch that good MMO itch and I believe I'm sold on this again! So I ended up going with Shaman for the versatility, but I'm also on edge of trying a Bard. I know they can be challenging, annoying to some depending on play style, and also very good if played well in groups. I want to be a good asset to groups, but also be a very good soloer, I like a challenge, and I like to just solo alot in games at times.
I want to make a character that can level fast, and be able to farm some decent pp to fund my Shamn I still intend to play. But also feel like I may enjoy Bards versatility as well. Are there areas I can level fast without pissing ppl off? Areas that aren't contested as much I can kind of go it alone? I'm not an ass, I'd stop on a dime if I saw someone trying to kill stuff and level. Any input is appreciated. I know some say bard can be extremely boring, but my main intent would to group and be a great asset. But I want to be able to farm platinum as well efficiently.

Bard is not going to be boring unless you are rly (bad) slacking hard. Shaman and bard press more buttons then any other class.
Bard can lvl the fastest, solo the best, be the best benefit in a group, has one of the highest skill caps, and is more rare then most classes at every lvl bracket. (part of this is because A good bard can solo xp better then any other class and thus, most bards solo for xp instead of grouping.) Summary: IF you can play the bard well, they are strongest class in the game. As far as shaman / monk goes both are highly sought after in groups, but also are 2 of the top 5 most populated classes, the other 3 being chanter, rogue, and druid. Ranger is quite rare, but imo not as rare as bard. I think i hit all your points except "where to solo at" which would double the size of the text wall. Anyway welcome to p99, im sure the community will be pleasant no matter what class you pick.

You can't go wrong with either bard or shaman. I have both and they've been very enjoyable to play.
Although if you're just starting out I suggest a bard. You'll be able to solo faster and be great in a group if need be. Whammy is kinda a slog at first, at least if you aren't heavily twinked.

Agree with the posts above. I swarm kited on my Bard in zones people rarely exp. Some of these were Overthere (away from the groups at SF ramp), Firiona Vie, Iceclad (the snow cougars) etc. I recommend using the wiki Bard guides and the leveling guides to find zone not highly contested to kite. I also recommend the kite style in the YouTube link below.
