Wizards in classic Velious are awful. Welcome to a timelocked Velious server. If you'd like to be useful on this server I suggest you reroll a Rogue, Monk or Cleric.

If you want wizards to be useful I suggest you play another version of EQ where they get instant cast ports, critical Nukes, stacking FT and focus effects.

Or just enjoy being the only class that can deal 2000 unresistable damage to a single mob for the low low price of 21 platinum per cast, and running OOM before most dragons die which drops your DPS to 0.

Also, I feel I should include the obligatory - Not Classic.
You know, it's funny, re-reading all the dev interviews and responses from in era... the wizard community was constantly asking for upgrades, complaining that they are imbalanced.

Every time, devs would come back with a response that wizards were analyzed and fit quite well in the world of Everquest. They actually argued that having access to ports offset any warrant to increase their damage / sustained DPS.

Interestingly, Lawrence Poe was working on a series of 'Anchor' spells for the wizard that were supposed to launch in Velious. Essentially, it would prevent a mob from gating. There was going to be like 3 in the series as you leveled.

It would take 2 wizards using it to guarantee functionality on very high level mobs, but regular trash would only need 1 wizard. The only area they felt the wizard were lacking was being wanted by groups, and these anchor series was going to be their answer.

Would be interesting custom P99 content if this ever rolls out. Could have a slight bit of group utility in some dungeons (DN, Seb, PoH, etc) and definite raid utility if zoneline pulling dragons is still a thing.

I've no idea if this spell idea was ever added later or just got scrapped completely.

To be fair, my answer fixes 2 / 3 of the situations you described. So, I feel justified since I just answered 66% of your worries.
Well you actually fixed 0 problems since the problem is not being able to TL myself. Gate pots fizzle and At 1k a pop no thanks.

Plane of Sky, the greatest raid zone in all of EQ, answers both of these questions.

It sure was, in the form of an AA with 3 ranks:

It was at this point I decided to no longer be kind to the casuals as they have extreme short term memory. They did this to themselves, unfortunately.

It does not TP to bind... You're missing the point of the thread if you suggest clickies as the solution to a lost mechanic.

Cool

TL boxes only exist so that wizards couldn't randomly blast groupmates to their bind points. They were never intended to be left open while running around. that's an exploit.

How glorious of a griefing mechanic would it be if you could just pop people back to their bind without them having any choice. The game would be border line unplayable I am sure. A nice stroll through EC tunnel porting mules who are over burdened back to wherever lol
lol. would make a super cool pvp mechanic and if it worked on mobs, could make wizards more desirable in groups ^^

I understand nerfing Self TL Boxes inside ToV serves a purpose but it has decimated the functionality of a Wizard in game. I use to be able to do technical things such as park unwanted constructs in DN with a entrance bind and TL box up. Pull rats from the maze in PoM through wall to the yard in order to quad... Amazing experience! Attempt perilous beast across Norrath with the safety net of a TL box on my cursor. Being a Wizard is one of the least played classes already in game but now their functionality has suffered greatly. Please reconsider bringing back this mechanic, at least outside ToV. Wizards deserve it.
Well said.

It wasn't even "overpowered" in ToV since the binds were removed anyway.
