On the flip side there are times when enchanting as bar of platinum takes three tries before I succeed. This is with max skill in conjuration but does seem to mimic how that would randomly happen on live.
That being said,
I agree that if you are starting with a skill of zero you should not be able to cast successfully every single time
in theory... Theoretically though, you could have just had lucky rolls 100% of the time.
Everquest random number generators could be a science unto themselves.
