tranix is FOR SURE a greater lightsource other players can see. i tested it out. light sources are a massive disadvantage in group pvp in certain zones.

It could be that the EQEmu code has difficulties with items that have a sight improvement attribute and also act as a lightsource - maybe on the user's end it's only giving the improved sight a la infravision/ultravision but not emitting any light, but to others it's emitting light as it should.

Worth verifying - does anyone know of any other items that are definitely a lightsource and also give you improved sight? It could also be that everyone's just getting Crown of King Tranix confused with Crown of the Froglok Kings, which is a greater lightsource.

Pretty sure this is the case - it looks like all items have in their raw data an attribute simply called "light", which is assigned a value to determine its type of light source. For items that don't emit light the value is set to 0: http://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemraw.html?id=4504

Greater Lighstone = 11
Fire Beetle Eye = 12

etc.

dunno if it was already said but Tolapumj's robe acts as a light source. Pretty nice bonus to an already good item.

There is a value in raw data entry for each item called "light". All light sources are not the same. Search the item on lucy to check its value. If you have a membership you can do an advanced search of all items by date and by light, which will give you close to an exhaustive list.

example:

Light values:
smoldering brand = 3
Breastplate of Ro = 7
Stein of Mogguk = 5
howling harpoon = 0
gloomingdeep lantern = 11
