A fun thing that could probably never happen (and wouldn't happen here for obv. reasons) would be a classic (or classic progression, /shrug) server where all loot was randomized Diabo-style.

It would be the only way to truly re-capture life circa 1999 where we were wandering around aimlessly, no idea where to go, what dropped what, etc. A sense of wonder and bewilderment. Randomizing the map/layouts of zones would be even better (and a billion times harder to construct, i realize), but nigh impossible.

Obviously everyone would still be highly skilled and would 'solve the puzzle' of the new server fairly quickly, but wow it would be a fun ride. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

LDoN kinda felt a little bit like a diablo/eq hybrid.

I've been patiently waiting for years now :*( Literally years...... I quit after about 2 weeks into kunark on my main "Bashndash withyourcash" ogre warrior.

I don't just want vanilla EQ in my life, I need it haha. Sigh

*goes and kicks rocks*

There is something magical about a group of damask and banded outfitted heroes wandering into upper guk or sol a while their warrior is brandishing polished steel short swords lol.

Or a group where the most valuable item is a fine steel.

Not a fungi equipped rogue tanking for the group with plane of fear drops while their level 60 druid friend hangs out to help the group out with buffs.

Seriously, start a new hero, go look sad and poor in EC and without even asking people will have you decked out in level 40 shit in a couple of hours. Mostly because the only thing they have left to do in EQ is help out noobs lol.

Eh, I don't really subscribe to or really even understand the whole refusal to accept help/items from higher level people, the refusal to twink characters to the teeth (which I do to an art, btw), etc.

I mean, sure, I remember joining a mid-20s/mid-30s venture to the little-explored Lower Guk back in '00, when the best geared warriors were in full Crafted and there were only a few level 50s on the entire server. We didn't make it to Lower Guk, by the way. We fought bravely, but alas, as we neared the corridor to the lower dungeons the frogloks were too many; our troll warrior brandished his two-handed axe, sacrificing himself so that we'd escape, but the swarm seemed endless.

There's always something in the game that will kick your ass, at any level, regardless of how geared you are. If the game seems too easy to you, then you're simply not challenging yourself. If the game seems too easy for your group, then your group isn't challenging itself. Most groups are coasting groups. People generally don't want to do difficult things, they just want an even-paced stream of xp and loot, which is fine - sometimes that's all I'm after too, but I also consistently try challenging things either solo or by leading groups. Sometimes it results in failure and brutalizing CRs, sometimes it results in the best adrenaline-pumping experiences you can have in an MMO, with the xp and loot to match.

It's always a question of attitude and playstyle, not of equipment. There is always something different and challenging to do, even on a top-heavy server like P99, and even at peak server populations. This also scales across the board, whether you're soloing, duoing, trioing, grouping, or raiding. Always.

No terms of the agreement have been posted, so this, just like all the other comments on this and like threads, is just speculation. The only term made public was that p99 had to delay the Velious expansion.
